Becoming Strong Because You Had No Choice

Right now, I want you to understand that life doesn't wait for you to be ready for the moment. Sometimes, life simply happens so raw when you list expect it. And when it does, because you are not ready for it, you find yourself standing in the middle of chaos. In these moments, all you want to do is hold everything together. These all of a sudden occurrences in life happen so fast that you feel so weak and helpless. In times like this, you try to be strong, although you never planned for it, but that is the reality. The reality that is behind the strength of many people. I wrote this post to personally share with humanity the reality of becoming strong because you had no choice.

Understand Strength, it is Not Always a Choice.

Many individuals have this mindset that when you talk about strength, it refers to a person's ability to lift heavy objects. Some also have the idea that it is something a person decides to consciously build in the gym. I see it from a different perspective. Real strength comes from a person's ability to endure a hard moment, a difficult time. It happens sometimes that you can be strong during those moments and never realize it.

The moments you had to cry but still show up the next day, the days you felt like lost but you still had to keep moving because there was no option to stand, are part of a person's strength. When life throws situations like heartbreak, financial struggles, loss, and rejection, it gets to a point where you have no option but to adapt. I am sharing this from experience, and I have been in such situations before. Tell you the truth, my friend, it hurts very much. The amazing thing is, the very moment when you decide to endure all that pain and hurt, just as a matter of time, you begin to adapt, emotionally, you become strong, and you will come to realize that some of the things that would cause you pain at first do not even matter much anymore.

Pain as an Unwanted Teacher

For pain, it is one of the most unwanted feelings I usually find hard to comprehend. Pain has an unfamiliar way of teaching people lessons they never asked for. It is a kind of feeling that tests a person's patience and forces them to the point where they see who they truly are. I have been through enough pain coming across some people in life, and when you've been through enough pain, that is where you know that it is not about pretending that nothing hurts when it truly does. It is about learning to live with the pain without letting it eat you up, talk less of letting it destroy you.

That process of becoming strong was something I didn't like. I am very sure no one likes it because it is exhausting, it is a very lonely experience, and it leaves you wondering when it will all be over. Upon all the pains, when the healing comes, it becomes a different feeling. It gets to a point where nothing seems to hurt you much again.

The Growth That Happens Without Your Knowledge

When reality hits you hard, you begin to experience some growth within you.

  • You begin to handle situations differently.
  • You feel safer and learn to distance yourself from things that cause you pain.
  • You begin to respond to situations instead of reacting to them.
  • You learn to let go of things easily.
  • You start to understand things differently and make no judgments.
  • Something that used to break you doesn't anymore.

The above growth you experience shows you what strength born from hardship looks like.

When You Have No One But Yourself.

One of the hardest parts of becoming strong because you had no choice is the loneliness that comes with it. You learn to rely on yourself because others weren’t there when you needed them most. At this moment, you barely trust anything apart from your instincts. You begin to depend more on yourself and less on others.

The Beauty In Rising Again

When you rise from all the shocks and pain, do you know what the endurance awards you? It awards you another reality where:

  • Nothing hurts you much because you are used to it.
  • Now you stay more real to yourself.
  • You do not pretend anymore; more smiles blossom on your face.
  • You acknowledge all your pains and challenges in the moments they come again.
  • You develop a new mindset and a new way of processing information.
  • You start to believe in better days even after witnessing the worst of things.

This is the beauty in rising again. After experiencing unbearable pain continuously, you become a new version of yourself.

The Ending

The reality of becoming strong because you had no choice teaches you to respect yourself in ways you never did before. You realize that life doesn’t always give you what you want, but it gives you what you need to become a better version of yourself. So, no matter the situation you find yourself in now, be strong and keep going. There is a light at the end of the tunnel.
